Week 9 Outdoor

This week’s theme is creating overloads. Overloads in football occur when one team has more players than the opposition in a specific area of the pitch.

What are the benefits of creating overloads?

Overloads create passing options for the player in possession and give defenders a decision to make as to whether to stay with the ball-carrier or track the runner. This helps teams progress up the pitch and break into the final third more quickly. Overloads in the final third help create chances to shoot. Off-the-ball, penetrative movements can be found to break the last line, or used as decoys to enable the ball-carrier to line up a shot on goal.
