Chinooks FC United 2013 secures gold!

The Chinooks FC United 2013 boys showcased their resilience, passion, and determination this past weekend. Despite challenging weather conditions and formidable opponents, the team fought through four intense games to emerge victorious, winning gold and capturing the cup.

In the first game, the team trailed 1-4 at halftime against a formidable Rangers team. However, they rallied for a 4–4 tie in the second half, demonstrating to all that they were a serious opponent. The Rangers had defeated the squad 1-0 in a league game not so long ago, but the United 2013 team wasn’t about to let that happen again.

Game two was set against a physically imposing Edmonton Scottish team. The United 2013 team stood firm and secured a hard-fought 3-1 victory, refusing to be intimidated by their opponents’ aggressive style of play.

Game three was against a strong and disciplined NSU team, the United 2013 team found themselves trailing early on. Nevertheless, they rallied again, clawing their way back to earn a well-deserved 1-1 draw, showcasing their ability to overcome adversity.

In the final showdown against Edmonton Sting, the United 2013 team encountered difficulties in converting their chances into goals. However, with a rock solid defence and their unwavering determination, they managed to maintain a 1-0 lead until the final whistle, clinching the Caledonia Cup.

Coach Mitch says, “throughout the tournament, the boys displayed exceptional teamwork, grit, and determination. The Caledonia Cup victory not only highlights the boys’ talent and development over the past sessions, but also serves as a testament to their character and resilience in the face of adversity. As they continue their soccer journey, they carry with them the invaluable lessons learned from this remarkable achievement. “

This success wouldn’t have been possible without the collective effort of the players, parents, and other members of the coaching staff, who contributed to creating a memorable and enriching experience for everyone involved.

The team is excited for their October trip to Las Vegas, where they will be competing against teams from all around the world, and this performance added to their incredible triumphs from the previous year.

Technical Director Rhys Evans said “I immediately saw their potential when I first met the team in September 2023. First and foremost, the group is a family and the team spirit is something very special. The boys are not only adept at winning competitions, but they also play an amazing brand of soccer that is enjoyable to watch. They are backed by an amazing parent group that encourages the boys in all of their pursuits. Thank you to the parents and the coaches for their support in each of these players’ development.”

Their other successes in recent times include a Gold in the Red Deer tournament in December. a gold in Seattle in September and a gold in Calgary at our very own Chinooks Cup in August.

Way to go boys, we are very proud of you all!
